The story of Generous Goerge's Positive Pizza and Pasta restaurant

Generous George, founder of Generous George's Positive Pizza & Pasta Place, opened his first restaurant on Duke Street during the massive snowfall of 1977.

His friend and mentor, Nick Latsios, "Thee Golden Greek," convinced George - only twenty years old and working as a waiter - to consider his childhood home and grocery store (known as Uncle Vic's Market) as the location for his restaurant.

George knew that Nick and his family were old timers in Alexandria and that Nick was very active in restoring and preserving the community and the quality of life in Old Town.

Following Nick's advice, George opened the Yellow Deli Belly Buster, serving steak, cheese and onion subs and custom made pizzas to a mostly blue-collar crowd from the F.G.E. TrainWorks located near the store.

Nick Latsios continued to be an inspiration to George, as he had been to many young Alexandria entrepreneurs. A brilliant Golden Glove boxer, Nick had even helped George's father in his restaurant business before becoming involved with George.

One day Nick was watching George make a Georgie Combo and asked if the topping portion were always so large. When George replied "Yes," Nick said, "You shouldn't call this place the Yellow Deli, it should be called 'Generous George's.' That is positively the largest amount of food I have ever seen on a pizza."

George changed the name the very next day and "Generous Georg's" was born. Ten years later, George introduced his latest product, the Positive Pasta Pie. It debuted in March 1987 as the "newest and most unique dinner concept in America." It is a combination of Generous George's fabulous hand tossed pizza crust with traditional and trendy pasta dishes. You have to try it to believe it and the response has been overwhelming.

According to George, "I feel I am blessed with the best customers in the world and look forward to your comments as we grow in the future. Remember Positive is the name of the game. People love Positive People. Generous is for Generosity. Generosity comes from the heart.

I learned how to cook from my Mama and I learned how to love children form my Poppa, and I learned the restaurant business form Nick Latsios, 'The Golden Greek.'

So, if you want a fine Italian meal in a Positive and Generous atmosphere, be my guest!

God bless you and thank you sincerely for your continued support over the years."

Love,

Generous George
